walked to the sea with dad today, because we had some sun for once. on the way there, i saw two communal libraries, planted in front of suburban houses. i took a book from one-- sartre's 'existentialism is a humanism.' then my dad noticed that there was a blue sticky note sandwiched between the cover and the first page of the book. it read:
"If this is among your books. Not being read. I'm taking-it back. Lots of love."

so now i guess i've got to read it, for jake if nothing else.
i sat on some rocks while i listened in on a conversation between the french boy behind me and his father. the boy was flying a drone over the sea, and even though i was treating it like a listening test i could only understand bits and pieces from their conversation due to my shoddy french. thinking about it now, i can barely remember what they talked about at all past the phrase 'ne descends pas.'
asked my dad what he would've named me, if i wasn't named by a seer (story for another time). he told me he'd never thought about it at all, cause he and my mother knew they wanted the seer to name me. my parents aren't religious, but they really believe in this seer stuff, while i've never cared for it myself. my dad's chinese name is 李钢 (li-steel), while his brother's name is 李剑 (li-sword) so i joked that they should've continued the tradition and named me 李锤子 (li-hammer).
then we started walking back home, because the sun was setting and staining the sky purple. i took a look at this second-hand bookstore and found a leather-bound edition of don quixote, with these charming illustrations by h. pisan. then i read the price tag-- $95! shame i'll never own it! i spent my money on a jasmine tea instead, and went back home with abbey road playing in my ear.
